Light the Night

Some of you might be aware that back in April of this year, I lost my Mother in-law to a four and half year battle with Leukaemia. As a family we will be taking part in the ‘Light the Night’ celebration. My wife Kristy and I would greatly appreciate any support with this worthwhile cause. Please read on for details about the event and how you can support or participate.

• Every hour of every day at least one person in Australia is diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma.

• Every two hours, someone loses their life to blood cancer.  Currently, more than 30,000 Australians are living with one of these cancers.

In light of this, our family would like to invite you to either sponsor us or walk with our family to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation “Light the Night”.

Light the Night celebrations are taking place across Australia.  Teams of friends, families and work colleagues will light the night by carrying coloured balloons with tiny lights inside: gold balloons to remember loved ones lost, white balloons to celebrate being a blood cancer survivor or blue balloons to give hope with much needed donations.

Following the lighting ceremony we will take part in a gentle scenic walk to Light the Night. It will be a beautiful night, so involve your family and friends as well. This is an opportunity for us to do something good in our community. I hope you will be able to join us.

All the funds raised help the Leukaemia Foundation improve the quality of life for patients and their families here and now, and to give hope for a brighter future by funding the work of Australia’s best researchers.

If you would like to make a donation towards our team’s fundraising visit http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/jan2 and make your donation online.

You will receive a receipt by email.

If you would like to join us by taking part in the Light the Night 2010 walk on Wednesday 15th September, 2010, please send me an email with your names & numbers and I will make sure there are illuminated balloons available for you on the night and also pre-register you in the walk.

Lolly bags and cupcakes for the Sun Bears

Our group today raised money for the Sun Bears. We sold lolly bags and cupcakes to Thiele and Pilgrim Primary schools today on Campus. We raised a lot of money, unfortunately we ran out of time to count it all, but we will let you know how much we raised as soon as we do.  We certainly aren’t having much luck with the weather. It was raining today, so we had to go to the classrooms to sell the lolly bags and cupcakes during lunchtime. We got a little wet, but it was worth it.
